There’s been one consistent theme at the ABO lately – filled to capacity.

Since the announcement of the new Scenario-based Oral Clinical Examination, the demand has been consistent and strong. In fact, within 45 minutes of registration opening, all spots for the February 2020 examination were full. All exams since then have also been filled to capacity. In response, the ABO added a third examination for 2020, which is now also filled. The prep courses offered by CDABO have seen a similar level of success with great reviews and completely full classes.

Many ask how to prepare or what to expect. We encourage you to visit the ABO website to view the online ABO study materials, including the Study Guide with Sample Cases and board prepared videos to assist in your examination preparation. ABO-appointed advocates for orthodontic programs are available to present materials to residents, as well as ABO examiners who can be contacted to conduct mock exams that demonstrate the traditional style clinical examinations. Additionally, take a moment to view our “A Day in the Life” video filmed during the November 2019 ABO Clinical Examination. First-hand accounts on the process from examinees, examiners and ABO Directors are shared, along with ‘behind the scenes’ details.

On-line registration for all 2021 ABO Clinical Examinations will open up July 15, 2020, 9:00 AM CST through the ABO website.

Working together to strengthen the specialty:

The ABO is committed to upholding our mission to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration. We believe the increase in orthodontists achieving board certification strengthens the specialty and provides an opportunity for us to come together to address non-specialists practicing orthodontics.

Since the new scenario-based examination has been initiated, 531 orthodontists have achieved board certification. The future of the specialty is strong and we are inspired by the commitment to learning and personal achievement.

Recent February examinees ranged from residents just completing their orthodontic programs, to established orthodontists practicing for over 30 years – reiterating the fact that board certification is for any orthodontist today who wants to challenge and better him or herself, and commit to the level of excellence expected to provide the highest standard of care.

We are here to help you pursue board certification should you be interested. Please call the ABO administrative office at 314-432-6130 or email [email protected] for additional information. Thank you!
